About the artist...

The artist, Kate Sherry, was born and raised in the Midwest, but considers New York City to be where she grew up.  It was an intense part of her life, and is the place in which she formed most of her ideas, and artistic style. As an actress, she studied at the National Shakespeare Conservatory, and spent a season performing with the Jean Cocteau Rep. at the Bouwerie Lane Theatre, in NYC.  She then went on to perform in numerous productions in Chicago, IL, and was a familiar face with the all-woman theatre group, Footsteps Theatre.

She's an artist, writer, dreamer, planner, goof-off, oddball, vagabond, who loves to observe. Her paintings have been on display in NYC, Chicago, and now, finally Milwaukee.

S
he sees the beauty in the common man's glory and despair.  She paints what she feels she sees.  Her characters are caught in fleeting self-concerned moments, often looking off to the side.  Sometimes, staring right back at the viewer as if challenging them.

"Most of the time, they do not see what is right in front of them," says Sherry, "so, although
it appears they are staring back at a viewer, they are actually looking through them.  Vacant, and so far away." arts and times, dec.2003
